Final Exam Preview
WEBSITE #1
1.) Summarize what you watched and read about - let's say 2-3 paragraphs of 3-4 sentences
I watched a video about iMovie's parts, how to edit clips, and how to put in simple effects such as lightning. The three basic parts of I movie were the clip pit, the timeline and the view screen. She taught me how to shorten, lengthen, cut, add, and split clips. Last, she showed me how to add effects or titles in the clips. With that you could do lightning, fairy dust, and more.
2.) Tell me one thing that you already knew about iMovie that the website explained
The website explained how to add and shorten clips. I already knew how to do this from editing skate clips.
3.) Tell me one thing that you learned new today that you didn’t know before.
One thing I didn't know was that you could add effects like lightning in iMovie.
WEBSITE #2
1.) Summarize what you watched and read about - let's say 2-3 paragraphs of 3-4 sentences
To add an voice, effect, or music clip to your timeline you drag and drop it from the Browser directly to the Timeline. To adjust the length of your sound clip by dragging from the left or right edges. When recording a voiceover, you must access the "Record Voiceover" bar in iMovie and click the microphone to record yourself. You can then trim the beginning and end by dragging the edges, and reposition your voiceover by dragging from the top of the green bar. To make cuts or rearrange parts of your recording, single click where you want to make the cut.
2.) Tell me one thing that you already knew about iMovie that the website explained
It explained how too add music. I already have done this while helping edit friends skate videos.
3.) Tell me one thing that you learned new today that you didn’t know before.
I learned that you could add voice to iMovie easily.
What are you concerned about with this final project?
Im concerned about time.
What are you confident you can complete early and have ready to use?
I believe I can complete the pictures and videos early so I have time to edit.
If I asked you today, what do you think you will do for your video?
I would go to a skatepark with friends and photograph a lot of the things we did.

Opinion Story
Who – John Doe
What – Leaked the Panama Papers to a German
Newspaper
When – Beginning early 2015
Where – Over the Internet
Why – To “make these crimes public”
Beginning in early 2015 an anonymous source
by the pseudonym “John Doe” began leaking documents to the German newspaper, Süddeutsche Zeitung. These 2.6 terabytes would eventually add up to 11.5 million
confidential documents.
John Doe transferred these documents over the
Internet for the safety of his identity. He leaked the data to make the crimes
public and because he thought Mossack Fonseca acted Unethically.
I believe he chose the right thing because millions
were being hidden in offshore tax havens. Although taxes aren’t any fun, many
people were exploiting the system.
Many people would see this as an opportunity
to exploit the system as well, that wouldn’t help and only make the situation
worse. Hiding from taxes would be nice but also immoral and possibly illegal.
Some may think he is doing the wrong thing,
illegal sharing private documents. But what is worse is hiding money and
corrupting the system. Mossack Fonseca, as believed by John Doe, is a corrupt
company.
Most of the world’s top 1% was involved in
this situation, which shows how much money we are dealing with. Millions are
being saved from taxes while people who have much less money are paying their
taxes.
This can be linked to the unfair distribution
of wealth in America. The top one percent has 40% of the nations wealth while
the bottom 80% of the nation has only 7% of the nations wealth.
To be part of the top 1% in America you need
to make at least $428,713.
Some of the people linked to the Panama
Papers are Iceland’s Prime Minister Sigmundur Davîo Gunnlaugsson, Saudi Arabia’s
King Salman, and family members and associates of British Prime Minister David
Cameron, Chinese Premier Li Peng and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
The IRS has found thousands of Americans
attempting to avoid taxes in offshore accounts and have pursued criminal
charges. The IRS has warned tax cheaters to stop hiding their money offshore
and is cracking down on those who do.
In an effort to get people to fess up, the
agency has created an Offshore Voluntary Disclosure Program. The main idea is
to get taxpayers to report their previous offshore accounts for reduced
penalties and/or no criminal prosecution.
I believe “’John Doe” did the right thing
leaking these private documents. It is similar to taking an eye for an eye.

3. List three suggestions the writer makes in the Personal Essays and Crafts section that you will use as you write.
- Personal essays by definition contain a personal perspective. You should be there. Watch your construction. If every sentence begins “I”, you need to rephrase to provide a better rhythm and pace to your piece.
- Make connections. If you’re writing about a global theme (poverty, unemployment, child abuse) bring the subject closer to home by relating it to specific, individual examples. If you’re writing about more mundane subjects (left-hand turn signals, the search for the best French Fries, your daughter’s graduation) again, set your views against a wider backdrop or perspective so the reader can relate to it.
- In a personal essay you have the freedom to think what you like on a subject, but your reader should go away with a good idea of why you feel that way.

Earthquake Story
At 8:12 in the morning in San Francisco Bay, the people in McHenry's Auto Supply. Many were frightened and stirred that early in the morning.
Sadly, Two people lost their lives. Six others were seriously injured.
An earthquake rocked the San Francisco Bay area Monday morning. The quake struck at 8:12 a.m. PDT
"People as far south as Los Angeles and as far north as Redding felt the quake," Gertz said.
Some people, like Hayward resident Mike Beamer, only felt the jolt and the 30 seconds of rumbling.
“I was eating my breakfast when the room started rolling,” Beamer said. “ I dove under the table just as I heard an explosion outside and a chunk of cement flew my window. That’s when the screaming start[ed] across the street.”
Hayward firefighters went to the auto shop and used ropes to stabilize the building long enough to conduct a search for the gas leak.
"Twenty-one fire personnel, 12 police and five American Red Cross workers responded to the building collapse, with some arriving within four minutes of the quake," Vu said.
Three of the six people injured were hurt seriously enough to require hospitalization and were transported to Hayward General Hospital, according to Vu. She added the no other serious injuries have been reported in Hayward.
“The epicenter of the earthquake, which has a magnitude of 6.3 on the Richer scale, was under Hayward Hills,” U.S. Geological scientist Penny Gertz said. “The quake was a strong one [and] it occurred on the Hayward Fault, which runs under the hill."

Huntington Story
Being shot in the knee by a dog may sound unbelievable, but at 10 p.m in Barstow, California, near Highway 1, 53 year old Janice Jones was shot in the knee by her dog who knocked a 9 mm handgun off a seat in their motor home.
Jones was eating pork chops at the time and was very grateful the bullet did not strike the gas tank. She was taken to the Huntington Beach Hospital soon after.
After getting Jones to the hospital California Highway Patrol press liaison Tammy Rye looked at the motor home where the gun went off.
“It could have been worse,” Rye said. “The bullet hit two inches from the gas tank.”
Jones wasn’t the only one who needed to be looked at. Her dog, Tombo, was abused and had cigarette burns on it's forehead.
“ It could have been a little less abuse and a few more of those pork chops,” Animal Control officer Janet Ngo said.

News Values
Timeliness - Panama Papers
This article was written two days ago about a recent topic. I picked this because it is very new.
The Panama Papers: Here’s What We Know
A group of global news organizations published articles based on a trove of leaked confidential documents from a law firm in Panama, Mossack Fonseca. They exposed how some of the world’s most powerful people were said to have used offshore bank accounts to conceal their wealth or avoid taxes.
Person of interest identified in death of UT-Austin student
I picked this article becuase it was on the UT campus. This is in Downtown Austin which is very close to South Austin.Person of interest identified in death of UT-Austin student

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/04/05/science/nasa-is-facing-a-climate-change-countdown.html?rref=collection%2Fsectioncollection%2Fscience&_r=1
This article fits the value because NASA is a national space exploration agency that works with other international countries. Because of the agency's importance and involvement in the world and in many grand scientific feats, anything having to do with NASA is newsworthy.
"KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, Fla. — The concrete block perches absurdly atop a piling, elevated about 10 feet above the beach sand. Is it art? A bulky milepost?"

Human Interest -
I picked this article because the person in the article went through a physical and emotional struggle. This pulled in readers to see how she would deal with it.
"Redefining Disability"
"Disability. It is an interesting word and one that many of us feel we cannot relate to. For nearly 19 years of my life, I was never classified as someone with a disability, until one day, in literally a split second everything I knew changed and I was now classified as an individual with a physical disability."
Novelty -
I picked this article because this information is one of a kind. The reader has never heard of 61 pairs of twins in a single village.
